Our everyday actions consume energy and produce carbon emissions, such as driving, flying and heating buildings. It is estimated that the average UK household emits around 4 tonnes of CO2 each year.
Given that Sandfield Guest House is a fairly old, 8-bedroom building that consumes energy all year round it clearly has a negative impact on the environment at large. I have calculated the carbon footprint of both Sandfield Guest House & my family using the Carbon Footprint Small Business Calculator as being as little over 14 tonnes of CO2e per annum!
As a family, we have decided to enhance our efforts towards a more ecologically sound & environmentally friendly life by offsetting these emissions through funding verified projects such as the Negros Island Solar Power Project in the Philippines; Wind Based & Solar Power Projects in India; and, the Dachunhe Sanji 6MW Hydropower Project in China.
For details on these projects, please CLICK HERE.
In fact, we decided to go a little further and pay a monthly contribution to offset 1.5 tonnes per month (18 tonnes per year).
We commit to continue reviewing the emissions we produce, behave proactively to reduce them & actively contribute to their mitigation through similar projects to those above.
It was easier than we expected and you could do the same swiftly – https://www.carbonfootprint.com/
